Service Members and Athletes

There are many similarities between the military and sports. Military recruits and athletes are selected based on skills and physical capabilities that will complement the team. Training develops physical strength, hones skills, and teaches the importance of teamwork. Service members and athletes are both taught to be the best at what they do. Both professions require great physical endurance and mental resilience and involve constant training and practice to stay in top form to surmount hardships, overcome fatigue, and perform their duties under pressure.

Military and sports professions are a big part of the lives of the service member, the athlete, their family and their caregivers. Camaraderie is developed amongst military units and sports teams alike, forming strong bonds. The families and caregivers of military and sports veterans share similar challenges. The need for support and camaraderie for these families and caregivers can be overwhelming and often overlooked.
